Who We Are
Pakistan Development Fund (PDF) was founded in 2010 at the University of Toronto in response to the devastating floods that displaced millions of people in Pakistan. With a small but burgeoning team composed of both students and professionals, PDF established a strong local presence while working towards impacting global change. Collectively, PDF encourages alternative perspectives through monthly public discussion forums, events with notable guest speakers, and film screenings. PDF’s core strengths are its solid team and dedicated individuals.
What We Believe
As an advocacy group, our prime mandate is to assist Pakistan’s most marginalized individuals and communities by highlighting injustices and recommending subsequent courses of action, all while promoting safe uncensored dialogue.
How We Do It
With four established chapters across the Greater Toronto Area, PDF mobilizes the Pakistani diaspora and encourages constructive discussion; ultimately allowing the organization to function as an assembled pressure unit. In addition, PDF’s chapters work together every year to raise funds for small-scale development projects, by partnering up with grassroots Pakistani NGOs that are selected based on strict assessment criteria.
While fundraising is an important aspect of PDF’s efforts, the organization’s primary objective is to present the public with credible research while promoting dialogue around its findings. PDF’s research team works towards ensuring that significant time and effort are devoted to raising awareness about development in Pakistan.
Past topics presented at Discussion Forums include: the role of women in Pakistani society, mental health, education, regional politics, and labour rights across the country. PDF aims to foster an environment in which concerned individuals can actively construct, and also learn from, academic discussions related to Pakistan.
Pakistan Development Fund envisions itself as part of a struggle to make Pakistan a peaceful and prosperous social welfare state. We hope you can join us in this movement.
